Opera a la Carte’s The Mikado A deliciously intelligent satire of British Society at the time of its creation, The Mikado premiered at London’s Savoy Theatre in 1885. Its Japanese setting allowed Gilbert and Sullivan to mask their commentary on British society in a spectacularly clever fashion. The most celebrated Gilbert & Sullivan opera, Opera a la Carte’s The Mikado is a musical journey back to the 1800’s.
